SALARIES (MARINA CARBONELL)

Good evening ladies and gentleman.
First of all, I want to thank you for having me today and for letting me express my ideas, I am very pleased.

When the director of this conference gave me the opportunity to talk in front of you I didn’t think twice about it, but when the day was getting closer I got nervous because I didn’t know how to start and what I was going to say, but I am going to try to do the best I can.

When I got my first job I was so excited, I was getting older, and I was so proud about it. Nowadays, I think back to when I started and I laugh. How innocent I was! As a child I thought that everybody was happy about their own jobs and everybody had the same salaries. But when I was growing up I saw the social injustices and how powerful people have the control of everyone and you can not say anything.

Can anyone explain to me why ladies have fewer salaries than gentleman? I always have thougth about that and I have never found an answer. In our country women earn 23% less money than man, and why? Ladies do exactly the same work as gentleman, why this can happen nowadays? Are we really seeing this injustice in the 20th century?

Too many questions to answer maybe, but there is only one that all of us this evening have to resolve. Is It possible that ladies and gentleman can have the same salaries?

We are the future, and we must strive to achieve this balance to make our country better. We are all one, we are all the same and all of us must have the same rights. I am only a girl who want to change the world, but can we fight for our future? Because we are the future, and we have to fight for our sons and the future generations.

With admiration for all the strong ladies that have fight for this project, thank you and have a nice evening.
